GURGAON: Drivers of private water tankers and
musclemen of builders on Saturday threatened the residents of Central Park-II
near Sohna Road when they protested the thoroughfare of the vehicles on the
road. Residents had asked them not to ply lidless water tankers and heavy
tractors through public thoroughfare during the daytime. The tankers transport
water from the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Behrampur to the construction
sites in Sohna Road near Central Park-II.
Showing blatant disregard to rules, private water tankers and tractors use the roads of the residential colony in Central Park-II every day from 8am to midnight. When enraged residents living in the six condominiums of Central Park-II came out on the street on Saturday morning to protest against the water tankers, the tractors and water carriers brought their musclemen instead, and threatened the residents with dire consequences if they continued with their protest.
"These uncovered tankers carrying water from
the STP to the construction sites have damaged the roads the colony residents
had constructed a few months ago at their own expense. Tractors have been
illegally employed to carry water. When we protested, the tanker owners and
some villagers came with musclemen and were ready to fight with the residents.
They threatened us with dire consequences," said Robin Garg, a resident of
Tower 6 Central Park-II.
"The colony roads are not designed to carry
heavy load of construction materials. Many a time, these tankers coming from
Tikri village barge into our private colony road and when our security
personnel try to stop them, they are threatened with dire consequences. They
threaten the residents not to use the road passing through their village,"
said Col Deepak Mohin, president, RWA Central Park-II, Sohna Road.
"Besides water tankers, tractors carrying
loaded construction materials keep on moving through the road endangering the
lives of the residents, especially children and senior citizens," said
Sandip Garg, a resident of Tower 1 of Central Park-II.
The spillage of water has created a sludge on the
road which becomes a traffic bottleneck. Moreover, the stagnant water is
causing a lot of mosquito breeding in and around Central Park-II, G D Goenka
and Tikri village. Residents also said there were many dengue cases reported
from this area last year.
When contacted, HUDA administrator Praveen Kumar
said, "We will look into the matter and try our best to end the menace of
private water tankers."
